My artworks are mostly talking about limitation of this society, like social expectations and stereotypes, which make you feel I am unable to do that. Besides I also came from a traditional Asian family, I totally understand that how hard to be a free soul in this modern world. I use many cultural metaphors to depict my life obstacle and struggling when I face different social roles, like how to be a good mother, a successful woman or a good wife. I think my life story through my art practice also can have the same impact as other people from different races or any background. Here is my animations also talk about this topic and give people some reflections.

As an immigrant here, I do understand the difficulties to integrate into the community, not to mention the job opportunity and struggling with reality issues. My recent mural project in Green Lake Park is telling about people to be brave to be yourself! Get rid of those endless eyes from the society judgement and limitation. Everyone is different and belongs here. This also means that no matter who you are or what background you are from.

The 63rd St Mural has a long history as being a prominent focal point in Seattle. It is located on the north side of N 63rd St at Aurora Ave N, an area that receives high foot and wheel traffic. There have been murals at this site since the 1990s, the most recent of which was Michiko Tanaka’s mural (pictured above), created in 2014 by a group of community members with support from the PNA. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers this mural outlasted its 5-year life expectancy and was painted over in 2021.
Now, the PNA, with support from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and the local community, is leading the effort to paint a new 63rd St Mural during the summer of 2023 that is both created by and a reflection of our vibrantly diverse Seattle community. The theme of this project is Belonging.

I am so grateful that I have this opportunity to join Phinney Community Association's mural project and worked with those people who are really supportive and helpful. I was so surprised that there were a lot of experIenced volunteers coming for help and I even learned so much from them. I also fascinated by other artists' designs and thanks for urban artworks helping us finish this big underpass mural with their awesome experience. Thanks for the whole community volunteers and the paint sponsor. Everyone uses their skill and resource to make this place better. I am glad that I can go through this magical process with so many people's help.
